Thu Apr 01, Distributor vacuum canister not working? I am trying to work out the timing on my ’72 standard because I seem to have a bit of a flat spot on acceleration. I’ve been setting the idle timing to 5deg ATDC I’ve been reading in the Bentley manual and online here about the dual vacuum advance on my distributor. I tried to do a quick check to see if the vacuum canister thing is working. I sucked on the advance hose, and the breaker plate inside the distributor moved fine. If I hold suction on the hose, the plate stays put. I did the same thing on the retard hose, and the breaker plate moves the other way

Apr 08, · Honestly I would look around the salvage yards and pick up one or two small vacuum assit pumps from cars(Ill look around and see if I can source you some models to look for) add on one of the vacuum canisters(I think Comp makes one now) and hook it directly to your booster and heater controls(if you vacuum controls) and drive on and never worry about cams again.
Feared by many, and ignored by many more, the vacuum advance can is an important component of your ignition platform that offers both performance and economy. Leaving it unplugged is akin to throwing free engine efficiency straight down the drain. To fully understand why the vacuum advance can is a necessity in any street-going car, we need to dive into spark timing as a whole and cover some ignition basics. Why do I need ignition advance at all?
In a theoretical world, air and fuel in a combustion chamber burn instantaneously as the spark plug ignites them, sending the piston downward in the bore and producing horsepower. What actually happens is that the air and fuel mixture take time to burn. If the spark plug were fired at true top dead center 0 degrees in crank revolution , the piston could be well on its way to bottom dead center — maybe even past it and onto the exhaust stroke — before combustion of the air and fuel was completed.

This vacuum canister from Mr. Gasket offers an additional reserve of vacuum for vehicles equipped with vacuum-assisted power brakes. The vacuum reservoir can only hold up to the maximum vacuum available from the engine; it does not create any additional vacuum by itself.
Verified Reviewer Original review: As he listened to me, it became clear to him that what I really needed was a new vacuum cleaner. He gave me an exchange number to give to UPS, instructed me to get a tracking number from them and let me know a new vacuum cleaner would be on the way as soon as I called back and gave them the tracking number which is EXACTLY what happened. Effortless, gracious customer service. Would recommend again and again. Dyson had me at Hello in with my first vacuum purchase.
They lost me forever. The customer service was excellent back then. I purchased another vacuum about 9 months ago and it was shipped to me defective. It blows debris to the left so I have to vacuum left to right just to keep from chasing too much debris. It also blew hot air on my feet and it is really hot and burns your skin when in sandals.
Having the vacuum advance connected doesn’t hurt performance one bit if you know how tune it, the exception being the dual diaphram models. You almost always want to diconnect the rear retard canister hose. Lighter springs, heavier counterweights, bushings and elongated breaker plate slots will help you tune the mechanical advance rate and limit. As for the vacuum advance, aftermarket vacuum cans are usually adjustable with the allen wrench poked into the hose nipple.
They have a screw that exerts more or less pressure against the diaphram. Factory diaphrams cans need to be disassembled to adjust.

August 27, , The small screw inside the housing adjusts the tension on the diaphragm spring. If you detect knocking and loss of power, back the screw out counterclockwise to decrease advance. If the engine pops and surges, tighten up the screw to increase advance. When checking initial and total advance, always disconnect the vacuum advance hose.
Remove the vacuum hose attached to the vacuum advance canister. 7. Remove the distributor hold down bolt and hold down. Joe Angell The 3. A common configuration seems to be to use a short bit of intake piping to an air filter in the engine bay itself, but that exposes the intake to warm engine air and any debris that might be kicked up in the bay. Josh’s setup removes the vacuum canister and replaces its cover with a plate behind which the air filter can be placed. This ensures cold air and minimal debris, using the entire pontoon as a cold air box. Kinds of Vacuum There are two kinds of vacuum, manifold and ported.
This is one of those things I’d heard about before, but really wasn’t sure which one was used for what, so I did a bit of research before going any further. This article does a good job explaining them. Manifold vacuum is vacuum that is always present in some form when the car is on.

Vancouver BC Canada re Vacuum canister, years ago when I had a BJ40 I was getting ready for a camping trip the next day and found my brakes weren’t working right, had to use 2 feet to get er to stop! Found the vacuum canister had a rust hole in it, fast what to do late on a Friday afternoon, I had access to welding gear and some 4inch steel pipe, so cut the pipe to about 12inches long welded brackets that matched the bolt up pattern, salvaged the hose fittings off the old canister and braised them on to the new canister.
Spray panted it black bolted it up connected the input and output hoses and it worked.
Can You Vacuum Seal Liquids? Posted on August 09 You can choose from canisters that seal manually with a dial or knob or canisters that hook up to your edge-style sealer with a separate hose. Neither type of canister should be frozen, so try to use your soup within a week or two.
Some will say it has to go to ported vacuum and others say straight to manifold vacuum is just as good. I know in the past, I have tended to use vacuum straight from the manifold as it was my belief that idle quality and off idle performance improved. It also seemed to me that since you use less throttle opening with the manifold vacuum supply, that you would use less fuel.
Today I found a site that explains what is really happening to the vacuum signal from both sources. Here is a chart of throttle position versus both manifold and ported vacuum: This chart is taken from gofastforless. As you can see both manifold and ported vacuum are virtually the same except at idle So other than at idle, there is no difference between the vacuum signal from either source.

Home Maintenance How to Attach a Shampooer to a Kirby Vacuum Cleaner Your Kirby vacuum cleaner can remove loose dirt and debris from deep within the carpet fibers, but it can sometimes leave stubborn stains behind, such as pet urine, soda spills and ground-in dirt. Rather than purchase a separate carpet cleaning machine, Kirby offers a shampooer assembly that attaches to your current vacuum. The assembly turns your vacuum into a carpet shampooer without the need to invest in an additional machine that can take up valuable storage space.
Look on the front of the nozzle assembly for the belt lifter. Depending on your model, the lifter could be square or round. Use the handle to rotate the belt lifter counterclockwise until the red arrow painted on the belt lifter lines up with the red arrow painted on the nozzle assembly. Rotate the lever left or right to release the nozzle assembly from the vacuum.
Lift up on the front of the nozzle assembly as you pull it from the vacuum to remove it. Find the release button on the hanger bar. Push in on the button to free up the top of the vacuum bag assembly. Rotate the bottom back of the bag assembly away from the vacuum body until you can lift the bag assembly from the vacuum. Make sure the shampooer brush roll faces the carpet.
Reach into the opening on the top of the brush roll shield and grab the brush roll belt.
